Restoration of Chichester Town House

Restoration of Chichester Town House

Project Description:

We were commissioned by WSCC to prepare a scheme for the change of use and remodelling of this three storey Grade II listed property in the heart of Chichester.

Our approach was to sympathetically remodel the existing property, both internally and externally converting its use to a single dwelling house, whilst ensuring a sinuous transition between the various spaces, and externally introducing a defined yet cohesive appearance, as well as considering the comments received from Chichester District Council in response to a pre-application enquiry on this site.

As highlighted in the Historic Environment Preliminary Enquiry, the level of alteration permitted will depend on the evidence for the shop front, its historic value and importance in the streetscape. We understand that the shopfront is an important part of the building’s evolution, and our scheme sympathetically addressed this element to gain officer support.
